The Ahearn Foundation

Grant Guidelines

Mission of the Ahearn Foundation

The Ahearn Foundation maintains and improves the quality of life  for the citizens of Binghamton and Broome County.

One-time, non-operating needs, that benefit Broome County are preferred. While health and education needs have traditionally been given priority, the Foundation also supports cultural and environmental projects which benefit a broad number of residents within the county.

Organizations applying for grants from the Ahearn Foundation must be fiscally responsible and recognized as tax-exempt under the Internal Revenue Code, generally with a 501(c)(3) designation. Grants to individuals and other organizations will not be considered. Furthermore, grants are not made for operating expenses, continuing support, coverage of deficits, political purposes, or to individual churches or religious organizations for religious purposes.

Major grants of the Ahearn Foundation tend to be generated from interests of the members of the Advisory Committee of the  Foundation.

However, the Advisory Committee of the Ahearn Foundation meets annually, in the Fall, to consider unsolicited requests for funding of grants to charitable organizations in Broome County. Therefore, the deadline for grant application is August 1, 2010. We will notify you of the Committee's decision within one week of our meeting. Unsolicited grants in the past have generally ranged from $1,000 to $10,000.

If your organization wishes to be considered for an unsolicited grant, please fill out and electronically submit the Ahearn Foundation Grant Application on our  How to Apply page. It will not be necessary to submit any other information with your request, other than what is asked for in the Grant Application. If your grant request meets our criteria, we may ask you to submit supporting information concerning your organization and  your project at a later date.
